The Turner Center Receives Grant for Free, Outdoor Concerts

The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts (TCA) received a multi-year grant to establish the Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series. The funding is provided by the Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation that supports music programs in more than 30 communities across the United States.

As part of the Levitt AMP Music Series, the TCA received $90,000 in matching funds to present free outdoor music events at the Turner Center Art Park from 2023 to 2025.

The TCA submitted a grant proposal in July 2022 to present the free music series in Valdosta at the Turner Center Art Park, home to the Music in the Art Park Concert Series, a free event held on the second Friday of the month, March through November.

According to Sharon Yazowski, executive director of the Levitt Foundation, since the Levitt AMP Grant Awards began in 2015, participating towns and cities have offered free outdoor concerts while utilizing underused public spaces.

“Positive change happens when people of all ages and backgrounds come together, and we’re thrilled to support change-makers like The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts,” says Yazowski. “The first Levitt AMP Valdosta Music Series at Turner Center Art Park will present a broad array of live music and enriching arts experiences, creating a central gathering place to celebrate the diversity of the community.”
