Located adjacent to the existing facility at 120 West Thigpen Ave., in Lakeland, Georgia, the new 39,360 square-foot skilled nursing facility will feature 62 private rooms, compared to the current 26 semi-private rooms, none of which provide private occupancy. “We’re pleased to make this investment in Lanier County,” said Bill Forbes, Management Consultant Corporate Services. “The Lakeland Villa has served an important role in the landscape of Lanier County for over forty years. Not only do area residents turn to the Villa for skilled nursing care, the economy also depends on the Villa as a major employer that contributes to the economic viability of the region.” According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Georgia’s 60 and older population will continue to grow and represent 20 percent of the state’s population by 2030, an increase of 34 percent from 2012. The overall expansion clearly identifies the region’s growth in older adults and need to increase the focus on quality and process improvement to provide the highest level of care for residents. However, SGMC Lakeland Villa Administrator Geoff Hardy explains that the new facility has also been designed to provide care for individuals of all ages. “We are no longer a ‘nursing home’ but instead a ‘skilled nursing facility.’ We are seeing younger, higher acuity residents and short-term residents,” Hardy said. “This requires a different type of facility and a different approach to care. The facility will help us better serve the changing population and healthcare needs moving forward.” The new SGMC Lakeland Villa will provide all private rooms for residents, along with expanding amenities such as a rehabilitation and therapy room and updated dining facilities. The new facility will also be equipped with the latest technology. “Each room will have a built-in flat screen TV, the building will have full Wi-Fi, and an increased focus will be placed on electronic records and documentation,” Hardy said. “The upgraded facilities show a commitment by SGMC to providing healthcare and services in Lakeland and surrounding areas.” New SGMC Lakeland Villa Designed to Meet Needs of Changing Population McCall Architecture
